How hooks work

  1. A hook runs inside the pool

    A Uniswap v4 pool can name one hook contract. The PoolManager calls it around swaps, deposits and withdrawals.

  2. Its address says what it may do

    The last 14 bits of the hook address switch on each callback. Those bits are fixed, so they cannot change later.

  3. Return deltas move money

    With a return-delta permission a hook can take part of a swap or of an LP’s deposit. That is how fees work, and also how a bad hook drains.

  4. The code decides the rest

    Verified source, an owner, or an upgradeable proxy tell you whether today’s rules can change tomorrow.
